Guatemala

Guatemala is located in Central America. It borders Mexico to the north and west, the Pacific Ocean to the south, El Salvador and Honduras to the east, and the Caribbean Sea and Belize to the northeast.

Its region is a mountainous and forested medley of volcanoes and jungle. Its volcanoes are the highest and most active often causing a red glow at night. A mix of banana plantations and soils rich in dinosaur bones fills its jungles.

Guatemala’s 2,000-year-old Mayan culture is alive and well in its ancient ruins and the beautiful colors of the everyday dress.

Due to the current implementation of Hague in Guatemala, Family Creations is currently unable to accept new applications for our Guatemala Program.

About the children available for adoption: The children available for adoption are usually infants whose parent has voluntarily relinquished their rights. Most are referred at one month of age and are routinely placed in their new home by seven months of age. Toddlers and older children are also available. During the adoption process the children are cared for in foster homes. All of the children receive routine medical care and check ups.

Adoption Eligibility : Guatemala’s adoption requirements are rather flexible. There are no specific requirements as to marital status, and women are not required to prove infertility, single women and men may adopt. The parents must be 25 years of age or older.

Travel : We recommend you make two trips to Guatemala during the adoption process. The first trip for at least three days is to meet and spend time with your child. The second trip is to finalize the adoption and bring your child home, (only one parent needs to travel for the 2nd visit). For an additional fee “Escort Services” are available for families unable to travel.

Time Frame : You will need to submit our application, and a completed home study to our agency. Once these documents have been submitted the adoptive couple is then eligible to receive referrals of available infants and children. The entire process, from accepting a referral to the finalization of the adoption, takes approximately six months to eight months.
