About the Children: The children available are of both genders and are mainly over 14 months who have being relinquished by their parents, usually because they were unable to support him or her. Older children and sibling groups, and occasionally twins are also available. The children generally have light complexions with lighter hair and eyes. During the adoption process, children are in orphanages that are clean, loving, and run by medical doctors.

Eligibility: This program is open to married couples only. There is no requirement for length of marriage. Ukraine is also flexible when it comes to the age of the adopting parents. Proof of infertility is not required. The Ukraine program is also extremely open regarding adopting parents' health. However, the only disability that is definitely not accepted by the Ukraine government is that an adoptive parent cannot be in a wheelchair. This is because the parents must travel to Ukraine to finalize the adoption, and Ukraine is not at all handicapped accessible.

Procedures & Time Frame: After your home study is complete, it takes approximately one month to authenticate all of your documents for your dossier. After your dossier is sent to Ukraine, it takes approximately five (5) months for you to be called to travel to Ukraine to meet a child and finalize the adoption.

Medical: Medical doctors run all of the orphanages in Ukraine. While in the orphanages, children will receive medical care and testing. The children will all be tested for HIV, Hepatitis, Tuberculosis, and Syphilis, as well as many other illnesses.

Travel: Adoptive families should plan on traveling to Ukraine for approximately 4 weeks. This will provide you with all of the time you need to meet your child and accept the adoption. Both parents need to be present in court for the first court appearance. After the court hearing, one of the parents may go back to the US after visiting the U.S. Embassy in Kiev and filing a necessary paperwork.

Total Adoption Expense: Estimated costs are $16,000, excluding travel and out-of-pocket expenses.
